About This Post
"This one was a doozy. My friends/clients Amy and Lori lost their mother not long after I lost mine. And their dad passed this past fall. In cleaning out the family home they had to determine what to do with their Mothers clock. Mary took on extra work back in the day to afford to purchase this piece and she loved it. I know many can relate to this dilemma. Neither Lori or Amy could work it into their homes.
It was decided that the clock would be transformed into a display/bookcase piece to go to Marys 13 year old granddaughter. All I'm going to say is Mary must have had a fierce relationship with that clock. She fought me every step of the way.
It took 6 rounds of filling and sanding to eradicate the carved top and bottom.
Paint...Well...these pieces were constructed of solid wood with an oak veneer.
A scuff sand followed by 2 coats of primer and I lost count at 4 coats of General Finishes Antique White Milk Paint. The texture in the veneer kept shadowing. Friend Connie over at So Distressed and I always joke about "Jesus Take The Wheel"...on these challenging pieces...Well...Jesus must have fallen asleep in the backseat and jumped out at a truck stop...cause he was no where in sight on this one.
I persevered, finished, and she heads home tomorrow. " - Raised Expectations
